Between work obligations, making dinners, packing lunches, running yourself and/ or the kids around, and trying to keep a clean house, it can be very difficult to slow down and focus on self-care. Taking just a few minutes a day for yourself can bring you back to zen mode, even in the midst of a busy schedule. Here are a few ways to help balance your mind, body, and spirit.


  1. Yoga

Yoga remains one of the most powerful and ancient methods of self-love. There are so many different styles out there, so getting into yoga never has to be boring. Find a local studio that offers classes that fit your schedule. Often times yoga studios will have promotions for first-timers such as trying a class for free.   1. Keep a Journal

Even if you don’t consider yourself a writer, expressing your thoughts on paper is shown to be extremely powerful for your overall wellbeing. Allow yourself to feel your emotions completely, and record them in a journal. The coolest part of this exercise is looking back at your entries and seeing how you’ve grown over time.


  1. Go for a Walk

Blood flow of any kind is shown to help increase energy and boost creativity. Going for a walk is one of the easiest ways to stimulate self-care, especially if you can gander around the trees and flowers. Ask a friend or Mr. Google to find new spots in your area for strolling adventures. You will be amazed how this simple practice does wonders for your mental and physical health.


  1. Read

Reading keeps your mind sharp and your spirit eager to learn new things. Keep an ongoing list of recommended books from friends and family so that you always have something fresh to read. Try ordering books used on Amazon if you’re looking to save some cash. Or better yet, see about getting a library card. Most libraries now utilize great apps that easily allow you to link your account to thousands of digital books (some editions even include the audiobook) that you can read on any mobile device.


  1. Meditate  

Meditation is so incredibly important to clear your mind and become spiritually centered. Find a quiet place in the house, or better yet go outside for some fresh air. You can either sit up in a cross-legged position or lie on the ground, feeling the security of the earth beneath you. If you’re worried about being uncomfortable, bring a blanket or yoga mat to rest on. Try playing some soft music in the background to keep the energy flowing. A simple breathing exercise is to breathe in for as long as possible, hold the breath for a few seconds, and then exhale for as long as possible.
